Hair Restoration & PRP Treatments
Hair Transplant procedures have come a long way since the day of the “Hair Plugs”. Hair Plugs consisted of removing a large group of hair follicles and re-implanting them in the areas of sparse hair growth. This resulted in the “corn row” appearance and an unnatural look. Hair transplant procedures today allow for a permanent and completely natural look.
There are a few different manufacturers of hair transplant equipment but the overall approach to hair transplant is the same. Individual hair follicles are retrieved from the “donor” section of the scalp, which typically are the back and sides of the scalp. This hair is not affected by DHT, a form of testosterone, which is toxic to hair thus it means that once the donor hair is transplanted, it will be permanent and will grow as natural hair. Since individual follicles are transplanted, the resulting look is natural and nearly undetectable by the human eye.
The procedure is near painless and is performed in one day with local anesthetic. PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is a treatment that has shown great results in re-establishing healthy hair. Over time, men and women, can notice thinning, almost wispy appearing hair. This is often the result of unhealthy or dying hair. PRP can be an adjunct to a hair transplant procedure or often as a stand-alone treatment to help improve the health and quality of your existing hair. PRP is obtained by a simple blood draw from your arm, spinning the blood sample down and obtaining the “Platelet-Rich” Plasma and injecting it into the areas of unhealthy hair. The Platelet Rich Plasma consists of several growth factors and stimulates the body to supply stem cells to the area resulting in thicker, stronger and healthier hair. This is a superb alternative to women who often are not candidates for hair transplants. The procedure take about 30 minutes and can be done one to several times per year.
